What We Believe

Haven Baptist Church affirms The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 of The Southern Baptist Convention as an accurate summary of what we believe. You may read The Baptist Faith and Message here.

We believe in the verbal, complete and sufficient inspiration and authority of the Scripture. {BF&M Article I; 2 Tim 3:15-17; Heb 4:12; 2 Pet 1:19-21}

We believe that God has revealed Himself in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. {BF&M Article II; Matt 28:19-20; 2 Cor 13:14; 1 Pet 1:2}

We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ who is fully God and fully man. {BF&M Article II.B.; Luke 1:31-35; John 1:1-18; 20:29; Col 1:15-17}

We believe that salvation is by the grace of God alone.  Men are justified and are accounted righteous before God only through the substitutionary death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. {BF&M Article II.B. and IV; Rom 3:23-25; Eph 2:8-22; Heb 9:24-28}

We believe in the “eternal security” of the believer; that it is impossible for one born into the family of God to ever be lost. {BF&M Article V; John 3:16; 10:27-29; Rom 8:28-39}

We believe in the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. {BF&M Article X; Matt 18:8-9; John 14:1-3; Rev 20:1-22:5}

We believe this Church of our Lord Jesus Christ is a local, autonomous body of believers who have been baptized by immersion and joined by shared agreement. {BF&M Article VI; Matt 16:15-19; 18:15-17; Acts 2:41-42, 47}

We believe that there are only two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, both of which are administered only to believers. {BF&M Article VII; Matt 28:19; Luke 22:19-20; Rom 6:3-5; 1 Cor 11:23-29}

We believe that Jesus died, was buried, and on the third day, rose again according to the Scriptures. {BF&M Article II.B; Luke 23:44-24:53; 1 Cor 15:3-8; Phil 2:5-11}

We believe in the visible and personal return of Jesus Christ. {BF&M Article X; Matt 24:27, 30, 36, 44; 1 Thess 4:14-18; Rev 22:6-13}

We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. {BF&M Article XVIII; Gen 2:15-25; Eph 5:21-33; Col 3:18-21}

We believe in the roles and responsibilities of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood as outlined in The Danvers Statement. {Gen 1:26-27; 2:16-18; Gal 3:28; Eph 5:21-33; Col 3:18-19; 1 Tim 2:11-15}
